World Health Organization’s Handwashing Guide

Hand hygiene is one of the fundamental practices for protecting health in daily life. Throughout the day, our hands come into contact with door handles, work equipment, and many different surfaces in shared areas. Therefore, cleaning hands properly is important.

The World Health Organization (WHO) provides information on proper handwashing techniques in its technical documents on hand hygiene.

How Is Handwashing Explained in the WHO Guide?

The handwashing technique presented in the World Health Organization’s “How to Handwash?” document can be summarized in general terms as follows:

Wet your hands with water.
Begin the handwashing process by wetting your hands with water.

Use a sufficient amount of soap.
Apply enough soap to the palm of your hand to cover all hand surfaces.

Rub your palms together.
Spread the soap over your hands by rubbing your palms together.

Clean the backs of your hands and between your fingers.
Place one palm over the back of the other hand and rub, including between the fingers. Repeat the same process for the other hand.

Clean the palms and between the fingers.
Place your palms together and rub between your fingers.

Clean the backs of your fingers.
Place your fingers against the opposing palm and rub the backs of your fingers.

Clean your thumbs.
Grasp your thumb with the opposite hand and rub it, then repeat the same process for the other thumb.

Clean your fingertips.
Rub your fingertips against the opposite palm to clean them.

Rinse your hands.
After washing, rinse your hands thoroughly with water.

Dry your hands.
After rinsing, dry your hands completely with a single-use towel.

Turn off the tap using the towel.
Use the single-use towel used for drying your hands to turn off the tap, then dispose of the towel appropriately.

In the WHO handwashing technique, the entire process is shown as taking approximately 40–60 seconds.

Vialli Cartridge Foam System

One of Vialli’s products for professional environments is the cartridge foam soap system.

In this system, foam soap is stored inside a sealed cartridge. The cartridge filling process is carried out in a way that prevents direct hand contact, with the aim of preparing the product under hygienic conditions and keeping it protected within a closed system.

Each box of the Vialli cartridge system contains 11 filled foam soap cartridges and 1 spare foam pump.

The foam dispenser dispenses approximately 0.7 ml of soap solution with each use. The pump mixes the soap solution with air to create foam. When mixed with air, the solution increases in volume and can spread easily across the surface of the hands.

This feature may help manage soap consumption in a more controlled manner, particularly in facilities with high usage levels.

A New Foam Pump in Every Box

In the Vialli cartridge system, 1 new foam pump is supplied with every 11 cartridges.

After one box of cartridges has been consumed, the pump used in the foam dispenser can be replaced with the new pump. This makes it possible to renew the pump mechanism through which the soap passes and where the foam is generated at specific usage intervals.

Periodically replacing the pump may help reduce the possibility of soap residue remaining inside the pump from previous use coming into contact with new cartridges. This practice may also contribute to maintaining the operating performance of the foam dispenser and supporting the long-term use of the system.

Foam Soap and Controlled Consumption

In the Vialli foam dispenser, approximately 0.7 ml of soap solution is drawn into the pump with each use, mixed with air, and transformed into foam.

As the soap solution mixes with air and turns into foam, it increases in volume, allowing the product to spread easily across the surface of the hands. This feature may help manage soap consumption in a controlled manner, particularly in facilities with a high number of daily uses.
